Etymology: Gr. fem. n. spora, a seed and, in biology, a spore; L. masc. n. lituus, a curved rod, crook; N.L. masc. n. Sporolituus, a spore-forming, curved rod.

Etymology: Gr. fem. n. thermê, heat; N.L. adj. philus -a -um (from Gr. adj. philos -ê -on), loving; N.L. masc. adj. thermophilus, heat-loving.
