Stomatococcus Bergan and Kocur 1982, gen. nov.
Type species: ¤ Stomatococcus mucilaginosus (ex Migula 1900) Bergan and Kocur 1982.
Etymology: Gr. n. stoma -atos, mouth; N.L. masc. n. coccus (from Gr. masc. n. kokkos, a berry), coccus; N.L. masc. n. Stomatococcus, coccus pertaining to the mouth.

---> ¤ Rothia Georg and Brown 1967 (Approved Lists 1980).

Note: Collins et al. 2000 propose to transfer ¤ Stomatococcus mucilaginosus (ex Migula 1900) Bergan and Kocur 1982 (the type species of the genus Stomatococcus) to the genus ¤ Rothia as ¤ Rothia mucilaginosa (Bergan and Kocur 1982) Collins et al. 2000, comb. nov. According to Rule 37a, bacteriologists adhering to this proposal must change the name Stomatococcus to ¤ Rothia.
