Thermofilum Zillig and Gierl 1983, gen. nov. (Type genus of the family ¤ Thermofilaceae Burggraf et al. 1997).
Type species: ¤ Thermofilum pendens Zillig and Gierl 1983.
Etymology: Gr. n. thermê, heat; L. neut. n. filum, thread, filament; N.L. neut. n. Thermofilum, filament existing in a hot environment.
