Etymology: Gr. n. theion (Latin transliteration thium), sulfur; Gr. n. rhodon, the rose; N.L. masc. n. coccus (from Gr. masc. n. kokkos, grain, seed), coccus, sphere; N.L. masc. n. Thiorhodococcus, rose sphere with sulfur.
