Warning: In the List of Prokaryotic names with Standing in Nomenclature, an arrow (--->) only indicates the sequence of valid publication of names and does not mean that the last name in the sequence must be used (see: Introduction).

Classification - List of orders and suborders included in the class - Warning: see also the file "Classification of prokaryotes: Introduction".

Notes:
1 The type order "Thermotogales" Huber and Stetter 1992 does not appear on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names, and was not validly published when Cavalier-Smith proposed the class Togobacteria (January 14, 2002). The order Thermotogales Reysenbach 2002 (previously known as "Thermotogales" Huber and Stetter 1992) was validly published in the May 2002 issue of the IJSEM (Validation List n° 85). Consequently, Togobacteria Cavalier-Smith 2002 is illegitimate.
