Trichlorobacter De Wever et al. 2001, gen. nov.
Type species: ¤ Trichlorobacter thiogenes De Wever et al. 2001.
Etymology: L. num. adj. tris, three; Gr. adj. chlôros, greenish-yellow, pale green; N.L. pref. chloro-, referring to chlorine (named for its color); N.L. masc. n. bacter, a rod; N.L. masc. n. Trichlorobacter, a TCA-dechlorinating rod.

---> ¤ Geobacter Lovley et al. 1995.

Note: Nevin et al. 2007 propose to transfer ¤ Trichlorobacter thiogenes De Wever et al. 2001 (the type species of the genus Trichlorobacter) to the genus ¤ Geobacter as ¤ Geobacter thiogenes (De Wever et al. 2001) Nevin et al. 2007, comb. nov. According to Rule 37a, bacteriologists adhering to this proposal must change the name Trichlorobacter to ¤ Geobacter.

Trichlorobacter thiogenes De Wever et al. 2001, sp. nov. (Type species of the genus).
Type strain (see also StrainInfo.net): strain K1 = ATCC BAA-34 = JCM 14045.
GenBank/EMBL/DDBJ accession number for the 16S rRNA gene sequence of the type strain: AF223382.
Etymology: Gr. n. theion (Latin transliteration thium), sulfur; Gr. v. gennao, to produce; N.L. part. adj. thiogenes, producing sulfur.

2 According to Rules 27(3) and 30, this name is not validly published, because the original publication makes reference to the deposit of the type strain in a single recognized culture collection. However, according to the Judicial Opinion 81, Trichlorobacter thiogenes De Wever et al. 2001 is considered to be validly published, since deposit in a second culture collection in a different country has been documented.
