Etymology: N.L. n. xylanum, xylan; N.L. masc. n. bacter, a rod; N.L. masc. n. Xylanibacter, rod decomposing xylan.

Etymology: L. fem. n. oryza, rice and the genus name of rice; L. gen. n. oryzae, from/of rice or rice plants, referring to rice-plant residue from which the strain was isolated.
