Xylanibacter Ueki et al. 2006, gen. nov.
Type species: ¤ Xylanibacter oryzae Ueki et al. 2006.
Etymology: N.L. n. xylanum, xylan; N.L. masc. n. bacter, a rod; N.L. masc. n. Xylanibacter, rod decomposing xylan.
Reference: UEKI (A.), AKASAKA (H.), SUZUKI (D.), HATTORI (S.) and UEKI (K.): Xylanibacter oryzae gen. nov., sp. nov., a novel strictly anaerobic, Gram-negative, xylanolytic bacterium isolated from rice-plant residue in flooded rice-field soil in Japan. Xylanibacter oryzae Ueki et al. 2006, sp. nov. (Type species of the genus).
Type strain (see also StrainInfo.net): strain KB3 = DSM 17970 = JCM 13648.
GenBank/EMBL/DDBJ accession number for the 16S rRNA gene sequence of the type strain: AB078826.
Etymology: L. fem. n. oryza, rice and the genus name of rice; L. gen. n. oryzae, from/of rice or rice plants, referring to rice-plant residue from which the strain was isolated.
