2 Schaad et al. 2004 (Syst. Appl. Microbiol., 2004, 27, 290-300) proposed the subspecific epithet piercei. According to Rule 13d, "a subspecies that includes the type of the species must bear the same epithet as the species". Subsequently, the correct subspecific epithet (fastidiosa) was provided by the way of an erratum (Syst. Appl. Microbiol., 2004, 27, 763).
