Caldisphaera Itoh et al. 2003, gen. nov. (Type genus of the family ¤ Caldisphaeraceae Prokofeva et al. 2009).
Type species: ¤ Caldisphaera lagunensis Itoh et al. 2003.
Etymology: L. adj. caldus, hot; L. fem. n. sphaera, sphere; N.L. fem. n. Caldisphaera, a hot spherical cell.

Caldisphaera lagunensis Itoh et al. 2003, sp. nov. (Type species of the genus).
Type strain (see also StrainInfo.net): strain IC-154 = ANMR 0165 = JCM 11604 = MCC-UPLB 1331.
GenBank/EMBL/DDBJ accession number for the 16S rRNA gene sequence of the type strain: AB087499.
Etymology: N.L. fem. adj. lagunensis, pertaining to Laguna, the province in the Philippines where the type strain was isolated.
