Type species: ¤ Calymmatobacterium granulomatis Aragão and Vianna 1913 (Approved Lists 1980).
Synonym: "Donovania" Anderson et al. 1944.
Etymology: Gr. n. kalumma, a head-covering, hood, veil; L. neut. n. bacterium, a small rod; N.L. neut. n. Calymmatobacterium, the sheathed rodlet.

Note: Carter et al. 1999 propose to transfer ¤ Calymmatobacterium granulomatis Aragão and Vianna 1913 (Approved Lists 1980), the type species of the genus Calymmatobacterium, to the genus ¤ Klebsiella as ¤ Klebsiella granulomatis (Aragão and Vianna 1913) Carter et al. 1999, comb. nov. According to Rule 37a, bacteriologists adhering to this proposal must change the name Calymmatobacterium to ¤ Klebsiella.
