Cedecea Grimont et al. 1981, gen. nov.
Type species: ¤ Cedecea davisae Grimont et al. 1981.
Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Cedecea, arbitrarily derived from the abbreviation CDC. The named was coined by P.A.D. Grimont and F. Grimont for the Centers for Disease Control, Atlanta, Georgia, where the organisms were originally recognized as a new group and named Enteric Group 15.

Etymology: N.L. gen. fem. n. davisae, named to honor Betty Davis, the American bacteriologist of the Enteric Bacteriology Laboratories, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Atlanta, Georgia, who made many contributions to the biochemical and serological identification of Enterobacteriaceae and Vibrionaceae.

Etymology: N.L. gen. masc. n. lapagei, of Lapage, named to honor the late Stephen Lapage, a British bacteriologist who made many contributions to the Enterobacteriaceae, bacterial systematics, and particularly as an editor of the Bacteriological Code.
