Synonyms: "Polycephalum" Kalchbrenner and Cooke 1880, "Myxobotrys" Zukal 1896.
Etymology: Gr. n. chondros, cartilage; Gr. masc. n. mukês, mushroom or other fungus; N.L. masc. n. Chondromyces, cartilaginous fungus.
