Dermabacter Jones and Collins 1989, gen. nov. (Type genus of the family ¤ Dermabacteraceae Stackebrandt et al. 1997).
Type species: ¤ Dermabacter hominis Jones and Collins 1989.
Etymology: Gr. n. derma, skin; N.L. masc. n. bacter, a rod; N.L. masc. n. Dermabacter, a rod living on skin.

Dermabacter hominis Jones and Collins 1989, sp. nov. (Type species of the genus).
Type strain (see also StrainInfo.net): strain S69 = ATCC 49369 = CCUG 32998 = CIP 105144 = DSM 7083 = JCM 7448 = NCIMB 13131 (formerly NCFB 2769).
GenBank/EMBL/DDBJ accession number for the 16S rRNA gene sequence of the type strain: X91034.
Etymology: L. gen. n. hominis, of man, signifying the isolation of strains from human skin.
