Dermacoccus Stackebrandt et al. 1995, gen. nov. (Type genus of the family ¤ Dermacoccaceae Schumann and Stackebrandt 2000).
Type species: ¤ Dermacoccus nishinomiyaensis (Oda 1935) Stackebrandt et al. 1995.
Etymology: Gr. n. derma, skin; N.L. masc. n. coccus (from Gr. masc. n. kokkos, grain, seed), coccus; N.L. masc. n. Dermacoccus, coccus living on skin.
