Type genus: ¤ Desulfuromonas Pfennig and Biebl 1977 (Approved Lists 1980).
Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Desulfuromonas -adis, type genus of the family; suff. -aceae, ending to denote family; N.L. fem. pl. n. Desulfuromonadaceae, the Desulfuromonas family.
