Type species: ¤ Dokdonia donghaensis Yoon et al. 2005.
Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Dokdonia, named after Dokdo, an island located on the East Sea in Korea, fom where the organisms were isolated.
Reference: YOON (J.H.), KANG (S.J.), LEE (C.H.) and OH (T.K.): Dokdonia donghaensis gen. nov., sp. nov., isolated from sea water. Int. J. Syst. Evol. Microbiol., 2005, 55, 2323-2328.

Dokdonia donghaensis Yoon et al. 2005, sp. nov. (Type species of the genus).
Type strain (see also StrainInfo.net): strain DSW-1 = DSM 17200 = KCTC 12391.
GenBank/EMBL/DDBJ accession number for the 16S rRNA gene sequence of the type strain: DQ003276.
Etymology: N.L. fem. adj. donghaensis, pertaining to Donghae, the Korean name of the East Sea, where Dokdo is located and from where the organism was isolated.
