Type species: ¤ Eionea nigra Urios et al. 2011.
Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Eionea, a nymph of the sea, referring to the marine origin of the type strain.

Type strain (see also StrainInfo.net): strain 17X/A02/237 = MOLA 288 = CIP 109759 = DSM 19752.

Etymology: L. fem. adj. nigra, black, referring to the colour of the colonies of the type strain.
