Classification (Warning: see also the file "Classification of prokaryotes: Introduction").
Faenia Kurup and Agre 1983, gen. nov.
Note: According to Kurup and Agre, the genus name Faenia is a Latin feminine plural name. However, according to Rule 10a, the name of a genus must be a substantive, or an adjective used as a substantive, in the singular number. Consequently, Faenia Kurup and Agre 1983 is an illegitimate name. Moreover, the Latin noun faenum is in the neuter gender and the plural nominative should be faena (without i). ---> ¤ Saccharopolyspora Lacey and Goodfellow 1975 (Approved Lists 1980).
Note: Korn-Wendisch et al. 1989 propose to transfer ¤ Faenia rectivirgula (Krasil'nikov and Agre 1964) Kurup and Agre 1983 (the type species of the genus Faenia) to the genus ¤ Saccharopolyspora as ¤ Saccharopolyspora rectivirgula (Krasil'nikov and Agre 1964) Korn-Wendisch et al. 1989, comb. nov. According to Rule 37a, bacteriologists adhering to this proposal must change the name Faenia to ¤ Saccharopolyspora.
Faenia rectivirgula (Krasil'nikov and Agre 1964) Kurup and Agre 1983, comb. nov. (Type species of the genus).
Note: Faenia rectivirgula is an illegitimate name because ¤ Faenia Kurup and Agre 1983 is illegitimate. ---> ¤ Saccharopolyspora rectivirgula (Krasil'nikov and Agre 1964) Korn-Wendisch et al. 1989, comb. nov.
