Type order: ¤ Geovibriales Cavalier-Smith 2002.
Etymology: L. neut. n. ferrum, iron; Gr. n. baktêria, staff, cane; suff. -ia, ending to denote a class; N.L. neut. pl. n. Ferrobacteria, a group of bacteria able to reduce iron.
