Etymology: L. n. flagellum, a whip and in bacteriology, a flagellum; L. fem. n. monas, a unit, monad; N.L. fem. n. Flagellimonas, a bacterium motile by means of a flagellum which is unusual for a member of the family Flavobacteriaceae.
