Etymology: L. adj. flavus, yellow; Gr. n. monas, a unit, monad; N.L. fem. n. Flavimonas, a yellow unit.

Note: The 16S rRNA sequence analysis of Flavimonas oryzihabitans (Kodama et al. 1985) Holmes et al. 1987 (the type species of the genus Flavimonas Holmes et al. 1987) suggests that Flavimonas Holmes et al. 1987 is a later heterotypic synonym of Pseudomonas Migula 1894 (Approved Lists 1980).

Note: The level of similarity between the 16S rRNA sequence of the strain KS0036 = L-1 = AJ 2197 = IAM 1568 = JCM 2952 (the type strain of the species Pseudomonas oryzihabitans Kodama et al. 1985) and the 16S rRNA of the strain DSM 50071 = ATCC 10145 (the type strain of the species Pseudomonas aeruginosa (Schroeter 1872) Migula 1900 (Approved Lists 1980) is 93.9%. This result suggests that Flavimonas Holmes et al. 1987 is a later heterotypic synonym of Pseudomonas Migula 1894 (Approved Lists 1980) and that the name Pseudomonas oryzihabitans should be used for this species.
