Frondihabitans Greene et al. 2009, gen. nov.
Type species: ¤ Frondihabitans australicus (Zhang et al. 2007) Greene et al. 2009.
Etymology: L. n. frons frondis, a leaf, foliage; L. part. adj. habitans, inhabiting; N.L. part. adj. used as a masc. n. Frondihabitans, inhabitant of leaves, leaf dweller.
Reference: GREENE (A.C.), EUZÉBY (J.P.), TINDALL (B.J.) and PATEL (B.K.C.): Proposal of Frondihabitans gen. nov. to replace the illegitimate genus name Frondicola Zhang et al. 2007. Int. J. Syst. Evol. Microbiol., 2009, 59, 447-448.
Original article in IJSEM Online
Note: The name ¤ Frondicola Zhang et al. 2007 is illegitimate because it is a later homonym of a fungal genus name Frondicola Hyde 1992 [Frondicola K.D. Hyde, J. Linn. Soc., Bot. 110(2): 100 (1992)]. See Principle 2. Consequently, a new genus designation Frondihabitans has been proposed by Greene et al. 2009.
