Etymology: L. n. gallus, chicken; L. neut. n. bacterium, rod; N.L. neut. n. Gallibacterium, bacterium of chicken.

Etymology: N.L. masc. gen. n. melopsittaci, of Melopsittacus, a zoological name for a genus of parakeet, from which the type strain was isolated.
