Type species: ¤ Gemmata obscuriglobus Franzmann and Skerman 1985.
Etymology: L. v. gemmare, to put forth buds, to bud; N.L. fem. n. Gemmata (from L. fem. part. adj. gemmata, put forth buds, budded), budded (bacteria), referring to the cell division mode of the bacterium.
