Gloeobacterales Cavalier-Smith 2002, ord. nov. (Type order of the class ¤ Gloeobacteria Cavalier-Smith 2002).
Type genus: "Gloeobacter" Rippka et al., 1974.
Etymology: N.L. masc. n. "Gloeobacter", type genus of the order; suff. -ales, ending denoting an order; N.L. fem. pl. n. Gloeobacterales, the "Gloeobacter" order.

Note: The type genus "Gloeobacter" has no standing in bacterial nomenclature. Consequently, Gloeobacterales Cavalier-Smith 2002 is illegitimate.
