Etymology: Gr. n. iluma -atos, sediment deposited in water; N.L. masc. n. bacter, a rod; N.L. masc. n. Ilumatobacter, a rod isolated from a sediment.

Etymology: L. n. flumen -inis, a river; L. gen. n. fluminis, of a river (Kuiragawa River, Okinawa Prefecture, Japan, the origin of the sediment sample from which the type strain was isolated).
