Kerstersia Coenye et al. 2003, gen. nov.
Type species: ¤ Kerstersia gyiorum Coenye et al. 2003.
Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Kerstersia, in honour of K. Kersters, an eminent Belgian microbiologist, for his contributions to polyphasic taxonomy and to the introduction of computerized protein gel electrophoresis.

Kerstersia gyiorum Coenye et al. 2003, sp. nov. (Type species of the genus).
Type strain (see also StrainInfo.net): strain API 184-2-84 = CCUG 47000 = LMG 5906.
GenBank/EMBL/DDBJ accession number for the 16S rRNA gene sequence of the type strain: AY131213.
Etymology: Gr. n. gyion, limb; N.L. gen. n. gyiorum, from the limbs, referring to the fact that the majority of strains were isolated from human leg wounds.

Kerstersia similis Vandamme et al. 2012, sp. nov.
Type strain (see also StrainInfo.net): strain CCUG 46999 = LMG 5890.
GenBank/EMBL/DDBJ accession number for the 16S rRNA gene sequence of the type strain: AY131212.
Etymology: L. fem. adj. similis, similar, resembling, as strains of the species biochemically resemble strains of Kerstersia gyiorum.
