Type species: ¤ Mahella australiensis Bonilla Salinas et al. 2004.
Etymology: N.L. fem. dim. n. Mahella, named in honour of the American microbiologist Professor R.A. Mah, for his important contribution to the taxonomy of anaerobes.
Reference: BONILLA SALINAS (M.), FARDEAU (M.L.), THOMAS (P.), CAYOL (J.L.), PATEL (B.K.C.) and OLLIVIER (B.): Mahella australiensis gen. nov., sp. nov., a moderately thermophilic anaerobic bacterium isolated from an Australian oil well. Int. J. Syst. Evol. Microbiol., 2004, 54, 2169-2173.
