Etymology: L. neut. n. metallum, a mine or quarry, metal; L. fem. n. sphaera, sphere; N.L. fem. n. Metallosphaera, the metal-mobilizing sphere.

Etymology: L. n. cuprum, copper; L. suff. -inus -a -um, suffix used with the sense of belonging to; N.L. fem. adj. cuprina, belonging to copper, describing its ability to extract copper ions from ores.

Etymology: N.L. fem. adj. hakonensis, pertaining to Hakone, Japan, where the type strain was isolated.
