---> Microvirgula aerodenitrificans Patureau et al. 1998 emend. Cleenwerck et al. 2003.
Type strain (see also StrainInfo.net): strain SGLY2 = DSM 15089 = JCM 21462 = LMG 18919.
GenBank/EMBL/DDBJ accession number for the 16S rRNA gene sequence of the type strain: U89333.
Etymology: Gr. n. aer aeros, air; N.L. v. denitrificare, to denitrify; N.L. part. aerodenitrificans, denitrifying with or in air.
Reference: CLEENWERCK (I.), DE WACHTER (M.), HOSTE (B.), JANSSENS (D.) and SWINGS (J.): Aquaspirillum dispar Hylemon et al. 1973 and Microvirgula aerodenitrificans Patureau et al. 1998 are subjective synonyms. Int. J. Syst. Evol. Microbiol., 2003, 53, 1457-1459.

Note: Microvirgula aerodenitrificans Patureau et al. 1998 and ¤ Aquaspirillum dispar Hylemon et al. 1973 (Approved Lists 1980) are heterotypic synonyms; ¤ Aquaspirillum dispar must be transferred to Microvirgula aerodenitrificans, since the latter species is the type species of the genus and cannot be changed (Rule 15 overrules Rule 42). Consequently, Microvirgula aerodenitrificans Patureau et al. 1998 emend. Cleenwerck et al. 2003 includes strains previously classified as ¤ Aquaspirillum dispar Hylemon et al. 1973 (Approved Lists 1980).
