Moritella Urakawa et al. 1999, gen. nov. (Type genus of the family ¤ Moritellaceae Ivanova et al. 2004).
Type species: ¤ Moritella marina (Baumann et al. 1984) Urakawa et al. 1999.
Etymology: N.L. fem. dim. n. Moritella, named after Richard Y. Morita to honor his work in marine microbiology.
