Type species: ¤ Mucispirillum schaedleri Robertson et al. 2005.
Etymology: L. n. mucus, mucus; N.L. dim. neut. n. spirillum, a small spiral; N.L. neut. n. mucispirillum, a small spiral rod of the mucus.

Etymology: N.L. gen. n. schaedleri, of Schaedler, in honour of Russell Schaedler, one of the pioneers in the study of the bacteria of the intestinal tract of mammals.
