Etymology: N.L. n. natron (arbitrarily derived from the Arabic n. natrun or natron) soda, sodium carbonate; N.L. pref. natrono-, pertaining to soda; L. fem. n. monas, monad, unit; N.L. fem. n. Natronomonas, the soda unit.

Natronomonas moolapensis Burns et al. 2010, sp. nov.
Type strain (see also StrainInfo.net): strain 8.8.11 = CSW8.8.11 = CECT 7526 = DSM 18674 = JCM 14361.

Etymology: N.L. fem. adj. moolapensis, of or belonging to Moolap, the place where the saltern crystallizer is situated from which the first isolates were recovered.
