Etymology: L. neut. n. os oris, the mouth; L. neut. n. baculum, a stick, staff; N.L. neut. n. Oribaculum, rod from the mouth.

According to Rule 37a, bacteriologists adhering to this proposal must change the name Oribaculum to ¤ Porphyromonas.
