Type species: ¤ Oscillibacter valericigenes Iino et al. 2007.
Etymology: L. n. oscillum, a swing; N.L. masc. n. bacter, rod; N.L. masc. n. Oscillibacter, the oscillating rod.

Etymology: N.L. n. acidum valericum, valeric acid; N.L. suff. -genes (from Gr. v. gennaô to produce), producing; N.L. part. adj. valericigenes, producing valeric acid.
