Type species: ¤ Ottowia thiooxydans Spring et al. 2004.
Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Ottowia, named in honour of Johannes C. G. Ottow, who made several contributions to our knowledge of denitrification in soil and activated sludge.

Ottowia pentelensis Felföldi et al. 2011, sp. nov.
Type strain (see also StrainInfo.net): strain RB3-7 = DSM 21699 = NCAIM B 02336.
GenBank/EMBL/DDBJ accession number for the 16S rRNA gene sequence of the type strain: EU518930.
Etymology: N.L. fem. adj. pentelensis, of or belonging to Pentele, referring to the traditional local name of Dunaújváros from where the inoculating sludge of the laboratory-scale activated sludge system was collected, from where the type strain was isolated.
