Type genus: ¤ Peptococcus Kluyver and van Niel 1936 (Approved Lists 1980).
Etymology: N.L. masc. n. Peptococcus, type genus of the family; L. suff. -aceae, ending to denote a family; N.L. fem. pl. n. Peptococcaceae, the Peptococcus family.
