Phycisphaera Fukunaga et al. 2010, gen. nov. (Type genus of the order ¤ Phycisphaerales Fukunaga et al. 2010; type genus of the family ¤ Phycisphaeraceae Fukunaga et al. 2010).
Type species: ¤ Phycisphaera mikurensis Fukunaga et al 2010.
Etymology: L. n. phycos (from Gr. n. phukos), seaweed; L. n. sphaera, sphere; N.L. fem. n. Phycisphaera, a spherical bacterium isolated from a seaweed.

Phycisphaera mikurensis Fukunaga et al 2010, sp. nov. (Type species of the genus).
Type strain (see also StrainInfo.net): strain FYK2301M01 = KCTC 22515 = NBRC 102666.
GenBank/EMBL/DDBJ accession number for the 16S rRNA gene sequence of the type strain: AB447464.
Etymology: N.L. fem. adj. mikurensis, of or belonging to Mikura Island, Japan, from where the type strain was isolated.
