Type genus: ¤ Pyrodictium Stetter et al. 1984.
Etymology: N.L. neut. n. Pyrodictium, type genus of the family; L. suff. -aceae, ending to denote a family; N.L. fem. pl. n. Pyrodictiaceae, the Pyrodictium family.
