Classification (Warning: see also the file "Classification of prokaryotes: Introduction").
Quadricoccus Maszenan et al. 2002, gen. nov.
Note: Quadricoccus Maszenan et al. 2002 is illegitimate because of precedence of the algal genus Quadricoccus Fott 1948 [Principle 2, Rule 51b(4)]. ---> ¤ Quatrionicoccus Tindall and Euzéby 2006, gen. nov. Note: The name Quadricoccus Maszenan et al. 2002 is illegitimate because of precedence of the algal genus name, Quadricoccus Fott 1948 [Principle 2, Rule 51b(4)]. Consequently, a new genus designation ¤ Quatrionicoccus has been proposed by Tindall and Euzéby 2006.
Quadricoccus australiensis Maszenan et al. 2002, sp. nov. (Type species of the genus).
Note: Quadricoccus australiensis Maszenan et al. 2002 is illegitimate because it is placed in an illegitimate genus (see: ¤ Quadricoccus). ---> ¤ Quatrionicoccus australiensis (Maszenan et al. 2002) Tindall and Euzéby 2006 comb. nov. Note: Quadricoccus australiensis Maszenan et al. 2002 is illegitimate because of precedence of the algal genus name, Quadricoccus Fott 1948 [Principle 2, Rule 51b(4)]. Consequently, a new species designation ¤ Quatrionicoccus australiensis has been proposed by Tindall and Euzéby 2006.
