Quadricoccus Maszenan et al. 2002, gen. nov.
Type species: ¤ Quadricoccus australiensis Maszenan et al. 2002.
Etymology: N.L. n. quadro, four; N.L. masc. n. coccus (from Gr. masc. n. kokkos), grain, seed; N.L. masc. n. Quadricoccus, four spherical cells.
Reference: MASZENAN (A.M.), SEVIOUR (R.J.), PATEL (B.K.C.) and SCHUMANN (P.): Quadricoccus australiensis gen. nov., sp. nov., a β-proteobacterium from activated sludge biomass. Int. J. Syst. Evol. Microbiol., 2002, 52, 223-228.
Original article in IJSEM Online

Note: Quadricoccus Maszenan et al. 2002 is illegitimate because of precedence of the algal genus Quadricoccus Fott 1948 [Principle 2, Rule 51b(4)].

---> ¤ Quatrionicoccus Tindall and Euzéby 2006, gen. nov.

Note: The name Quadricoccus Maszenan et al. 2002 is illegitimate because of precedence of the algal genus name, Quadricoccus Fott 1948 [Principle 2, Rule 51b(4)]. Consequently, a new genus designation ¤ Quatrionicoccus has been proposed by Tindall and Euzéby 2006.

Quadricoccus australiensis Maszenan et al. 2002, sp. nov. (Type species of the genus).
Type strain (see also StrainInfo.net): strain Ben 117 = NCIMB 13738 = CIP 107055.
GenBank/EMBL/DDBJ accession number for the 16S rRNA gene sequence of the type strain: AY007722.
Etymology: N.L. masc. adj. australiensis, of Australia, where the isolate originated.
Reference: MASZENAN (A.M.), SEVIOUR (R.J.), PATEL (B.K.C.) and SCHUMANN (P.): Quadricoccus australiensis gen. nov., sp. nov., a β-proteobacterium from activated sludge biomass. Int. J. Syst. Evol. Microbiol., 2002, 52, 223-228.

Note: Quadricoccus australiensis Maszenan et al. 2002 is illegitimate because it is placed in an illegitimate genus (see: ¤ Quadricoccus).

---> ¤ Quatrionicoccus australiensis (Maszenan et al. 2002) Tindall and Euzéby 2006 comb. nov.

Note: Quadricoccus australiensis Maszenan et al. 2002 is illegitimate because of precedence of the algal genus name, Quadricoccus Fott 1948 [Principle 2, Rule 51b(4)]. Consequently, a new species designation ¤ Quatrionicoccus australiensis has been proposed by Tindall and Euzéby 2006.
