Type species: ¤ Renibacterium salmoninarum Sanders and Fryer 1980.
Etymology: L. pl. n. renes, the kidneys; L. neut. n. bacterium, a rod; N.L. neut. n. Renibacterium, kidney bacterium.

Etymology: N.L. pl. n. salmoninae, subfamily of the Salmonidae; N.L. gen. pl. n. salmoninarum, of the Salmoninae.
