Rhodospirillales Pfennig and Trüper 1971, ordo. (Type order of the class ¤ Anoxyphotobacteria (Gibbons and Murray 1978) Murray 1988; type order of the subclass ¤ Anoxyphotobacteriae Gibbons and Murray 1978).
Type genus: ¤ Rhodospirillum Molisch 1907 (Approved Lists 1980).
Etymology: N.L. neut. n. Rhodospirillum, type genus of the order; suff. -ales, ending denoting an order; N.L. fem. pl. n. Rhodospirillales, the Rhodospirillum order.
