Riemerella Segers et al. 1993, gen. nov.
Type species: ¤ Riemerella anatipestifer (Hendrickson and Hilbert 1932) Segers et al. 1993.
Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Riemerella, named in honor of Riemer, who first described Riemerella anatipestifer infections in geese in 1904 and referred to the disease as septicemia anserum exsudativa (Riemer, 1904).

Other synonyms: "Pfeifferella anatipestifer" Hendrickson and Hilbert 1932, "Pasteurella anapestifer" (sic) Hauduroy et al. 1953, "Pasteurella anatipestifer" (Hendrickson and Hilbert 1932) Merchant 1957.
Etymology: L. n. anas -atis, duck; L. adj. pestifer, that brings destruction, noxious, pernicious; N.L. n. anatipestifer, one who brings destruction of ducks.
