Saccharofermentans acetigenes Chen et al. 2010, sp. nov. (Type species of the genus).
Type strain (see also StrainInfo.net): strain P6 = AS 1.5064 = JCM 14006.
GenBank/EMBL/DDBJ accession number for the 16S rRNA gene sequence of the type strain: AY949857.
Etymology: L. n. acetum, vinegar; N.L. suff. -genes (from Gr. v. gennaô, to produce), producing; N.L. adj. acetigenes, vinegar- or acetic acid-producing.
Reference: CHEN (S.), NIU (L.) and ZHANG (Y.): Saccharofermentans acetigenes gen. nov., sp. nov., an anaerobic bacterium isolated from sludge treating brewery wastewater. Int. J. Syst. Evol. Microbiol., 2010, 60, 2735-2738.

Note: In the paper by Chen et al. 2010, the GenBank/EMBL/DDBJ accession number for the 16S rRNA gene sequence of strain P6 is erroneously cited as AY 949857 (with a space after the letter J).
