Type species: ¤ Sediminibacter furfurosus Khan et al. 2007.
Etymology: L. n. sedimen -inis, sediment; N.L. masc. bacter, rod; N.L. masc. n. Sediminibacter, a rod from sediment.

Sediminibacter furfurosus Khan et al. 2007, sp. nov. (Type species of the genus).
Type strain (see also StrainInfo.net): strain MAOS-86 = CIP 109285 = NBRC 101622.

Etymology: L. masc. adj. furfurosus, brownish, because cells in confluent growth have a brownish tinge.
