Type species: ¤ Soonwooa buanensis Joung et al. 2010.
Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Soonwooa, named in memory of Professor Soon-Woo Hong, a microbiologist who founded the first university microbiology department in Korea.
Reference: JOUNG (Y.), SONG (J.), LEE (K.), OH (H.M.), JOH (K.) and CHO (J.C.): Soonwooa buanensis gen. nov., sp. nov., a member of the family Flavobacteriaceae isolated from seawater. Int. J. Syst. Evol. Microbiol., 2010, 60, 2061-2065.

Type strain (see also StrainInfo.net): strain HM0024 = CECT 7503 = KCTC 22689.

Etymology: N.L. fem. adj. buanensis, pertaining to Buan beach, where the type strain was isolated.
