Type genus: ¤ Spirillum Ehrenberg 1832 (Approved Lists 1980).
Etymology: N.L. neut. n. Spirillum, type genus of the family; L. suff. -aceae, ending to denote a family; N.L. fem. pl. n. Spirillaceae, the Spirillum family.
