Type genus: ¤ Spirosoma Migula 1894 (Approved Lists 1980).
Etymology: N.L. neut. n. Spirosoma, type genus of the family; L. suff. -aceae, ending to denote a family; N.L. fem. pl. n. Spirosomaceae, the Spirosoma family.
