Etymology: Gr. n. staphulê, bunch of grapes; Gr. masc. adj. thermos, hot; N.L. masc. n. Staphylothermus, grape (-forming) thermophile.

Etymology: N.L. masc. adj. hellenicus (from Gr. masc. adj. hellenikos), Greek, pertaining to Greece, from where the organism was isolated.
