Type species: ¤ Sterolibacterium denitrificans Tarlera and Denner 2003.
Etymology: N.L. neut. n. sterolum, sterol; L. neut. n. bacterium, small rod; N.L. neut. n. Sterolibacterium, sterol-utilizing small rod.
Reference: TARLERA (S.) and DENNER (E.B.M.): Sterolibacterium denitrificans gen. nov., sp. nov., a novel cholesterol-oxidizing, denitrifying member of the β-Proteobacteria. Int. J. Syst. Evol. Microbiol., 2003, 53, 1085-1091.
